50 years of the Carnation Revolution

On April 25th, 1974, a military coup overthrew the fascist regime in Portugal after 48 years. The desire for bourgeois-democratic rights quickly turned into a cry for radical change in social conditions.

Was a revolution, even a Portuguese socialism, possible? The hope for “Portuguese socialism” in Western Europe electrified the industrial and agricultural workers in Portugal and the European left.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. An excellent reason to recall the social struggles of that time!

An exhibition collective has designed a traveling exhibition that illustrates the Carnation Revolution in simple language. The history and course of the revolution are presented in 12 thematic areas.

From November 10th, 2024, to December 19th, 2024, the exhibition can also be seen in our museum. The opening is on Sunday, November 10th, 2024. It starts at 5pm. The exhibition collective will also be there.

More information about the exhibition and direct contact with the exhibition organizers can be found on their website.
